Volunteers

As a non-profit organization we rely on our volunteers.  It is important to us that our funding goes directly to families as much as possible.

We need volunteers for a variety of tasks:

bulletProgram coordinators
bulletEvent / Program assistance
bulletEvent / Program photographer
bulletOffice assistance
bulletPublic relations assistance / graphic design
bulletGrant writing
bulletAnything else you would like to help with!!!

Each volunteer goes through an application process and a short training program.

We also welcome applications to our executive board from people who have an interest in childhood cancer and who are excited about contributing to the work we're doing.

In-kind donations

Gifts are always welcome, and you may claim a tax deduction for the fair market value of the item you donate.  We are always looking for items such as:

bulletOffice Supplies (pens, paper, staplers, binders etc.)
bulletTickets to events and entertainment facilities
bulletSmall toys and games, travel sized toiletries for our “New Diagnosis” bags
bulletPrizes to raffle at our fundraising events.
bulletAuction items – some of the most popular auction attractions are donations of a stay at your lake cabin or city condo, gift certificates for goods or services at your business.

Sponsorships

Sponsor a party or event either financially or with goods or services, such as our holiday party or our summer family party.  You can also sponsor a teen’s participation in a Teens Tackling Cancer event, a parent for a parent retreat or gas cards so a family can get a child to and from Madison for treatments.

Fundraising

Have your community group such as Eagle Scouts, Optimists Club, student council, etc. hold an event to benefit Capital Candlelighters.   Groups and individuals have conducted creative fundraisers for us with "Penny Wars" competitions, casual dress days at companies, head shaving events, etc.  We are happy to provide you with posters, brochures and other presentation materials if want to do a fundraising drive to benefit Candlelighters.

Workplace Contributions

bulletPlease write in “Capital Candlelighters” when you donate to the United Way
bulletIf your employer matches your gifts to non-profit organizations, fill out their form the next time you donate to Capital Candlelighters and double the value of your contribution instantly!
bulletTalk to your human resources manager about giving employees a day of fun by allowing them to wear casual dress, denim, holiday apparel, etc. if they contribute to Candlelighters.

bullet$50 buys 4 books on childhood cancer for our parent library
bullet$25 will send a child, his or her sibling or a parent to an overnight retreat
